You might know Ashley from her @ashleyericksonbeauty hair tutorials. But if you haven’t seen her tutorials yet, we promise you will be charmed by her warm and approachable personality. Ashley is a former hairstylist from Iowa who turned lockdown into a massive opportunity by sharing quick hair tutorials that help women achieve looks they didn’t know they could create. Since her debut on Instagram in 2021, her success has skyrocketed and she has grown a community of women who turn to her for all things hair. Ashley recently visited us, and we can tell you she is just as sweet in person as she is online.
Ashley tells us that she attributes a lot of her success to her relatability. Her short blonde hair is not the thick long mane you see in many hair tutorials, so women all around the country can relate to her and actually achieve the styles she is creating. When she is not creating hair tutorials and connecting with her followers, she’s a busy mother of 2.
“I feel so fortunate to be able to share tips and tricks with people all day long. It’s not even really work. It’s such a fun experience to meet people and talk with other women and it’s been very, very rewarding.”
What does a typical day look like for you?
You know, I’m a mom just like everybody else. My mornings are a little chaotic, shuffling kids to and from, making lunches. Doing all the things that every other mom does. Then when my kids get to school, that’s when my workday begins. I don’t even want to call it work, but I get ready, and that’s my job I guess! I do my hair and makeup and I usually do a reel for my Instagram. Then I spend the majority of my day engaging with brands and customers and responding to my messages. Then usually around 2 pm that’s when I cut my day off and spend time with my family. My kids are in multiple sports so evenings and weekends are a little busy for us.
How did you get started in the industry?
When I got married, I ended up not doing hair anymore because we moved and started having kids, so I stayed home with them. Then when Covid hit, the era of TikTok and tutorials came about and I thought, I could do some hair tutorials…why not? And it just took off. It truly, overnight, just kind of went wild.
The band
Wave by Ashley Erickson is made with quilted soft leather in a neutral beige color. The band has a classic look that’s wearable from day to night and all year long. This one is truly something you can wear every day and not have to worry about changing out. Just like Ashley intended it to be.
I was so excited when Spark*l reached out to collaborate. Honestly, I was a little scared, which sounds silly but I really wanted to make something that people were going to love.
The band is a classic, a little traditional, but that’s really my style and it’s something people can wear from season to season, from day to night. It’s a staple piece in your closet like a little black dress. It was really important to me that the leather be really nice and soft with a broken in feel, and Spark*l nailed it. I was so pleased with how it turned out, I love it so much.
The cause
Proceeds from Ashley’s band will benefit the University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital. The hospital is the only comprehensive children’s hospital in the entire state of Iowa and a national leader in pediatric medicine. People come from all over the country, and all over the world for the advanced technology and quality of care at UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital. This was important to Ashley, to be able to give back to so many people, not just those within her home state of Iowa. The cause is very special for Ashley and her family.
As a parent I know how important it is to have all of the resources available to you when you are in a situation where your child is a patient. You want the best of the best, and that is what we have here in Iowa.
Ashley’s passion for giving back clearly shines through. She has a big heart and is grateful to be able to partner with Spark*l on the Band Together initiative. Proceeds from her band will support her cause of choice, the Stead Family Children’s Center, which makes the band a meaningful purchase for you all.
Another really cool thing is that the hospital overlooks Kinnick Stadium, home of the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. After every 1st quarter of a home game, 70 thousand people turn around and face the hospital and dedicate that time to the children. Everyone in the stadium, fans, players, coaches, they all stop to wave to the patients. It makes me choke up just talking about this, it is such a powerful moment. It means so much to the families and to the fans.
We are honored to band together with Ashley for this notable cause and welcome her to the Spark*l Squad!
